To share songs from your Mac to GarageBand for iOS, you need iCloud Drive. Performances are stored inside the session file in some sort of MIDI fashion, but Apple doesn’t give users an easy way to get that information out. One of the biggest drawbacks is the lack of built-in support for exporting MIDI data. Apple’s GarageBand makes it relatively easy to sketch out an audio demo, but it does have some severe, intentionally-crippled limitations. GarageBand will transfer the midi as part of the project package, but not as separate files that can be extracted from the project. If you export a GarageBand project you will be able to open the project with all tracks intact on a Mac and continue working on the project in GarageBand.
